Demand for intelligent university-leavers for graduate roles 'ferocious'

Published: Friday, 28 January 2011   Category: All Graduate job news

There is a high demand for intelligent university-leavers from companies trying to fill graduate vacancies.

Such is the opinion of James Uffindell, the founder of graduate social networking website Bright Network.

Around a quarter of companies expect to keep their graduate employment at the same levels as last year, according to High Fliers Research.

But Mr Uffindell, who is also the chief executive officer of the website, said that leading recruiters still want to hire top graduates.

"If you're a bright, ambitious and hungry graduate, demand is as fierce as ever and back to boom time levels," he said.

"[The] demand for [intelligent graduates] is ferocious. It's more of a challenge for the firm finding the right graduate."

The Graduate Market in 2011 report by the research company also revealed that starting salaries for graduates in the UK are expected to remain the same as 2010 levels: a median of £29,000.
