A 34 per cent rise in the number of degree holders applying to professional services firm in Scotland has been witnessed, it has been reported.

The Scotsman reports that the firm will maintain usual recruitment levels in 2009, taking on around 1,000 new employees in graduate jobs.

However, with many other firms cutting back on their intake and others laying staff off, demand for position is higher than in previous years.

Sarah Shillingford, graduate recruitment partner at Deloitte, said the economic slowdown had not impacted upon the firm's hiring policy.

She added: "Students graduating in 2009 face a tougher job market than those who graduated in previous years.

"The value attributed to job security by students is higher than I have seen before, both in terms of the employers they are attracted to and the timing of their applications."

In other news today, statistics published by GAAPweb.com indicated that an increasing demand for risk, audit and compliance professionals is being witnessed in the finance sector.
