Despite this year's A-level results showing that more students gained A-grade qualifications than ever before, professional services firm Deloitte has said it will not raise entrance requirements for its graduate jobs.
Candidates currently need three B-grade A-levels and a 2:1 degree or above in order to have a chance at landing a graduate job at the firm, but in light of improved further education results, the firm are retaining this.
According to Personnel Today, the company, which recruits 1,000 graduates every year, felt that boosting requirements would shut off employment opportunities to those attending schools with poorer teaching standards.
Sarah Shillingford, graduate recruitment partner at Deloitte, told the news provider: "While this inevitably gives us a greater number of applications to assess, we feel it enables us to judge people on a range of skills and achievements that go beyond their school grades and helps to create a level playing field."
John Charlton from Deloitte recently told bdaily.com that employers should help graduates avoid "career paralysis" by encouraging them to still seek jobs despite the recession.
