Council graduate training scheme offered in Lincolnshire

Published: Wednesday, 15 July 2009   Category: Public sector

Those seeking a graduate job in the public sector may be interested in a training scheme which aims to give university leavers work experience at North East Lincolnshire Council.

Running for three months over the summer, the initiative allows 19 graduates and undergraduates to gain valuable skills needed for working within a council, in one of the many different careers available in the field.

According to the Grimsby Telegraph, four of the graduates who took up the scheme after leaving university last year landed full time jobs with the council.

Rian Crombie, a 23-year-old graduate who won a permanent position after the training, told the newspaper: "Although I haven't ended up working in the area of the council where I completed my placement, it gave me invaluable experience and I'm sure it gave me the edge over other applicants for my current job."

Several London councils such as Newham and Tower Hamlets are also helping young people get into graduate jobs by providing social care work experience and training through schemes, according to the Guardian.
