Graduates are increasingly resorting to door-to-door selling as they struggle to land a full-time job, according to new research.
Cosmetics giant Avon has suggested that some firms who utilise direct selling have witnessed a 200 per cent rise in applications as university leavers struggle with the jobs market at present.
As a result of the findings, the company is now planning to launch a new campaign involving tapping into the unemployed graduate network to recruit modern-day 'Avon ladies'.
"There is a huge opportunity to promote direct selling to graduates and indeed other people during the economic downturn," said Anna Segatti, president of Avon UK.
"Self-employment is a really viable earnings option for many people."
Ms Segatti also revealed that Kleeneze, which distributes catalogues from door to door with the help of agents, has seen a 188 per cent rise in applications from students and graduates.
Earlier this week, Betfair, the world's largest internet betting exchange, told Computer Weekly that it is fully committed to recruiting more graduates in the coming weeks and months.
