Companies more confident on hiring IT contractors

The number of graduate opportunities in IT could be set to increase as companies become more confident in their outlook on hiring contractors.

Although firms may not be actively looking to increase the size of their in-house IT teams, graduates could find plenty more openings for contract work, if the comments of one expert are to be believed.

Speaking to Recruiter.co.uk, Networkers International's global recruitment services director James Smith suggested that confidence is on the rise among employers who use IT contractors.

He told the website: "There is still a strong demand in both permanent and contract recruitment but clients are more confident on taking on contractors for specific projects due to the flexibility they get with it.

"There is an end date to the project, so they are not making a full-on commitment as they would do with permanent."

Mr Smith's comments come after technology research company Ovum suggested that most broadcasters will be increasing their IT budgets in the year ahead, which could lead to new graduate IT jobs.
