Co-operative to employ 900 people in new distribution centre

Published: Thursday, 28 April 2011   Category: Retail

The Co-operative Group have announced they are to employ 900 people, including around 130 in new vacancies, at a new distribution centre to open off the M1 motorway.

Co-op's new distribution depot will be located just off of the motorway's junction 28 - in South Normanton - and is expected to coast about £22 million to build, according to the Nottingham Post.

Ian Smith, the Co-operative's regional head of logistics, said that the area is "ideal" for the company's needs.

"It is … close enough to our existing depots in the area for staff to transfer, while at the same time it will lead to the creation of up to 130 new jobs," he said.

"Once fully operational, this site will help us to continue to provide a first class service for our stores for many years to come."

Some of the new roles may be graduate vacancies, as the Co-operative Group runs an annual intensive graduate scheme.
