Co-operative Group's graduate jobs receiving 'astounding' interest

Published: Wednesday, 01 December 2010   Category: Retail

A leading community retailer has revealed that it is experiencing huge interest in the graduate jobs it is offering in Manchester.

The Co-operative Group announced that in the six weeks since it has been accepting applications for 19 posts at its head office, almost 1,000 graduates have put their names forward.

Rachel Rotherham, the company's graduate programme manager, admitted that she has been "astounded" by the 65 per cent rise in applications in comparison to the same period in 2009.

She said: "Last year, we received nearly 2,500 applications for 19 graduate places and, just looking at the numbers received already, we are set to receive a record number of applications this year.

"The candidates applying for these positions are of a consistently high calibre, so we want to advise graduates to apply quickly to avoid disappointment."

Ms Rotherham also advised graduate to ensure that they are making the most of the information on offer at skills sessions, careers fairs and on organisations' websites.

The Co-operative Group is owned and run by its members, of which there are 5.5 million, making it the largest company of this type in the world.
