Civil service 'offers great graduate jobs'

The civil service is one of the best places for graduate jobs, according to one newspaper.
Writing for the Times, Martin Birchall explains that the body, which carries out the administrative work of government, offers a range of careers for university levers.
"There will be about 500 vacancies in 2009 across the main government departments, the Diplomatic Service, the Houses of Parliament, the Government Economic Service and the Government Statistical Service," he says.
Anyone who manages to obtain a position on the civil service's fast-stream development programme can expect to under go intensive training to prepare them for managerial positions, Mr Birchall adds.
Job will be available in a range of locations, with the government having 173 agencies and departments spread across the country, he states.
