CIPHE recommends government keeps up 'vital' green investment

Published: Tuesday, 26 April 2011   Category: Science, Engineering and IT

More graduate opportunities will be created in environmentally-friendly industries if government sustains investment in the sector.

It is "vital" that the government continues to show commitment to schemes such as the green investment bank, according to the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).

Kevin Wellman, operations director at the CIPHE, said that the public is becoming "more comfortable" with discussions about carbon footprint.

"The whole ethos of carbon saving is not something which is off-putting to many people nowadays," he said.

"The big fear is to ensure that we ... avoid the unscrupulous people jumping on the bandwagon talking about renewable technologies and creating mayhem or bad press for the competent and conscientious installers out there."

The comments follow a new report from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) warning that the UK is failing to attract the level of investment needed to build low-carbon infrastructure.
