CIM membership boosts graduate job prospects for students at Liverpool John Moores University

Published: Friday, 04 May 2012   Category: Graduate jobs

Students taking the BA (Hons) Marketing and MA Marketing programmes at Liverpool John Moores University can now take advantage of student membership to the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

The partnership between the university and the industry body has already meant that 105 students have signed up for CIM membership as part of their induction.

The initiative has been put in place to boost career prospects for students at the university and give them access to a wide range of member benefits. These include free CIM events and opportunities for networking with leading players in the field of marketing.

Conceived by Joe McGrath, Principal Lecturer at LJMU's Business School, and Diane Earles, Regional Director of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, the initiative is the first of its kind in then North West.

"This partnership adds real value to the student learning experience, providing access to online resources and advice, a weekly e-magazine and free access to local North West events. The BA (Hons) Marketing programme also obtained CIM Dual Awards status in late 2011 and this scheme increases the professional value and employability potential of the degree," said McGrath.

After the completion of courses in marketing, students at LISU will be able to put ACIM after their names. This is as a result of automatic enrolment as an associate member of CIM.

In addition, students will be able to attend professional talks on subjects including 'Careers in Marketing' and 'Getting the most out of your Professional Body' as well as the chance to scoop a CIM prize for final year BA (Hons) Marketing students.

Diane Earles added:

"At a time when competition is so strong for graduate jobs, we are glad that we can help these students develop their marketing network and skills. They are going to need all the support they can get and as the professional body for marketing we are happy to work with Liverpool John Moores University to get them started as early as possible on the right path."

Would membership of a professional body boost your graduate career prospects?
