Business studies 'can lead to public sector graduate jobs'
Wednesday, 06 August 2008
Those with business studies degrees do not need to limit their search for graduate jobs to the private sector, according to one expert.
Writing for the Guardian, Debbie Andalo reveals that a qualification in the area can also allow people to access the world of local government.
People who are keen to get a foot on the public sector ladder have a range of options available to them.
These include graduate employment programmes at an arm's length management organisation scheme responsible for social housing, or directly with a council.
"Hull city council's graduate development programme for local authority managers - which recruits every two years - was recently lauded as an example of best practice by the Audit Commission," Ms Andalo states.
The scheme also offers people the chance to complete a part-time MSc in public management, she adds.
Yesterday, the Manchester Evening News reported comments by Samantha Dunbar, policy manager for employment and skills at the regions chamber of commerce.
Ms Dunbar stated that work experience is vital for those looking for graduate jobs.
