BP offers graduates 'Ultimate Field Trip'

Published: Tuesday, 24 February 2009   Category: Work Experience

Energy giant BP is offering graduates a unique chance to visit one of its operational plants, which would be a positive work experience in the eyes of graduate employers.

The online competition is open to graduates of any academic background and will be a chance to see their learning applied in the real world at a plant in one of 100 different countries in which the supermajor oil supplier operates.

In 2030, the world will consume 50 per cent more energy than today and the competition aims to raise awareness of this challenge, which will affect people looking for graduate jobs in the energy industry in the next 20 years.

Last year, the competition saw Max, a Durham University graduate, fly to Houston to see BP's relief effort after a major hurricane, where he also toured a refinery and saw some Texan geology.

The Association of Graduate Recruitment has already stressed the importance of work experience to graduates seeking employment as jobs get more competitive in the economic downturn.
