Life after graduation
Young Britons looking for graduate jobs abroad are increasingly using Australia's working holiday visa grants which have seen a 20 per cent increase in uptake in the first quarter of 2009.
The graduate scheme allows young people to travel abroad while still gaining vital work experience needed and having a competitive element to add to their CVs when they return to the UK.
Figures from the Australian Visa Bureau show that working holiday visa applications have seen a rise and research by Australian Associate of Graduate Employers (AAGE) shows that there are more vacancies this year in most of the key sectors.
Ben Reeves, chief executive for AAGE, said: "The past six years have seen a real boom in vacancies and the opportunities for graduates - 2008 was certainly the best recruiting season in Australia for a decade."
The number of applicants for the visas saw a similar increase in the last quarter of 2008, according to a report by the Australian Department of Immigration released early last month.
