Asda could create graduate jobs

Graduate jobs could be created by supermarket firm Asda next year as part of its expansion plans.

The Walmart-owned company announced today (November 16th) that 3,000 new roles are available on its website.

However, it plans to create 7,500 extra positions during 2011 by continuing its expansion activities, which involve the opening of new stores, extending its home shopping services and converting Netto facilities.

Over the past five years, the firm has created more than 30,000 jobs in Britain, with more than 70 new stores opening around the country.

This has led to a rise in sales of more than a third to approximately £20 billion.

Chief executive Andy Clark explained that he is pleased that the firm is able to help the UK jobs market.

"At Asda we always recruit for attitude and train for skill, so you needn't have previous retail experience to apply," he said.

Asda's main rivals include Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose and Sainsbury's.
