Students looking for graduate finance jobs will be pleased to hear that Abbey National is opening 300 new branches in the UK over the next four years.
The announcement is further good news for people looking for careers in finance as HBOS and HSBC are currently in the middle of creating 50 new branches.
A spokesperson from Abbey told Personnel Today: "We have already employed 300 new people this year, and depending on the size of the branches and locations, will determine the number of personnel we will employ."
Abbey currently has 700 branches in the UK and is expecting to increase this number to 1,000. The bank was taken over by Spanish company Santander in 2004 and has since cut its workforce.
The majority of the branches will be opening in the north-east and the midlands.
Banco Santander employs over 129,000 people in 40 different countries and claims to have more than 67 million customers worldwide.
