Oyster offers voluntary and paid work placements in the world’s most fascinating places.
This is more than tourism. You’ll live for 3-6 months in a very different place, get to understand the local culture and gain new skills and insights.
We’ll prepare you, send you out with a group of like-minded people and provide support when you need it.
What can I do?
Teach English, coach sports and surf, care for orphans and needy children, help rehabilitate abused bears, conservation and healthcare work; or earn a wage in a ski resort, downtown Sydney and Australia’s wild outback.
Enjoy languages? Some of our placements focus on getting you fluent.
Love adventure? Lots of opportunities for exploring and trying new things. Treks and safaris are available in many destinations.
Oyster’s placements are designed to be challenging and rewarding – and to bring real benefits to the local community.
Where can I go?
Our voluntary placements are in Brazil, Chile, India, Nepal, Romania, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia and South Africa.
Alternatively, you can earn a wage in Canada’s ski resorts or Australia.
What’s special about Oyster?
We’ve been sending gap year travellers abroad for over 10 years and have developed our own placements for them.
Two things are really important to us. Firstly, that the projects we work with both want and need our volunteers. We’ve been working with many host countries for years and have great relationships with them all. Secondly, we want our ‘gappers’ to be happy, safe, fulfilled - and to come back with a long-term affection for the country they visit.
We feel that we’re different from other gap companies in several ways:
- First class support for participants before departure and abroad
- Placements that have welcomed Oyster participants for years
- Pre-departure courses
- Small groups sent together to placements
- Experienced, caring overseas staff most with us since 2000
- Dedicated UK destination managers for each group
Sounds great! What happens next?
