Thomson Pettie has an excellent opportunity for a graduate with a business or purchasing background to learn the buyer role within a busy manufacturing environment. After full training the graduate will be expected to enhance our current procurement systems with support from the management team. This is a 12 month placement, with view to permanent hire, based in Cumbernauld.
The project is intended to strengthen the companies purchasing operation. Success will be determined by a successful day to day purchasing operation being in place. Further enhancements should be achievable with help and support from the rest of the management team.
The successful applicant will be given full training in the day to day running of purchasing and in using our manufacturing system Pegasus Operations II. Initially, key roles will be as follows:
Create purchase orders from requisition sheets completed by production managers
Place the orders with suppliers via email or fax
Book in delivery’s against Purchase orders
Once familiar with the current setup it is hoped that the graduate can enhance our current purchasing function by implementing order progressing and reporting to provide better visibility
In the long-run, this role will involve taking full responsibility for purchasing within the company, with support from the management team. Enhancements to the procurement systems and processes will therefore be for the benefit of all involved.
Skills / Experience
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong organisational skills, e.g. multi-tasking and time management
Good team working skills and able to work pro-actively and independently
Good IT skills, e.g. MS Office
Ability and willingness to learn quickly
Interest in Procurement
Some previous experience in a procurement role
Knowledge of engineering / fabrication
Business or Purchasing related degree.
