You will need a PhD in Computer Science in an area close to program analysis or programming language theory.

You should have a practical and conceptual understanding of object-oriented software design using Java, C# or C++. Experience of functional programming in Scala, Haskell, ML or Lisp is highly desirable. Some experience in database development and web application development would also be advantageous.   

We are looking for candidates with very strong problem solving and analytical skills who can think at several levels of abstraction in one context. You should have the ability to articulate complex ideas and correctly interpret developers’ and users’ requirements.

You should have good communication and presentation skills and good inter-personal skills to work with PSL’s staff and clients. You will be self-motivated, able to use your initiative and work autonomously to agreed targets. It is also important to have the willingness and aptitude to take ownership of all aspects of the project.

As owner of this project you will be able to develop skills in transformation tool development, agile software development practices and industrial-strength programming along with ‘real-world’ architectural design. You will develop an understanding of complex systems, particularly in the area of automated translation of software.

You will be encouraged to join and work towards Chartered status of an appropriate professional body such as the British Computer Society (BCS) or Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA).

You will be employed by Aston University but will be based at the company, Phoebus Software Limited, in Solihull.
