EXPIRY NOTICE: This job has now expired and will not be accepting any more applications.

Birmingham City Council have partnered with Aston Business School on this Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project to help review its processes for commissioning and raising awareness of ‘short breaks’ provision for disabled children.

Birmingham City Council is currently the largest local authority in Europe, providing a range of services for Birmingham’s 1 million residents. This project is within the Children, Young People and Families Directorate of the Council.

The project will work towards transforming the overall planning and commissioning of ‘short breaks’ services for disabled children, young people and their families by developing innovative solutions to ensure that the right services are in place to meet the needs of users and developing effective channels of communicating information to families.

The project is strategic in nature, with many stakeholders, and you will work in a team which recognises the welfare needs of disabled children and their families which benefit from the services and is focussed on maximising opportunities for them in order to improve their quality of life.

Quantitative research and database management skills are essential and experience of qualitative research is an advantage.

You will have a minimum 2:1 degree in a business-related discipline, with some commercial experience. Experience of strategic change programmes and business process reviews is desirable, but a willingness to learn about these issues is essential.

You should have a high level of IT literacy and experience of data analysis. An understanding of using customer profiling to assess and manage supply & demand for services is essential.

Experience of working in the public sector would also be an advantage.

You will be able to work on your own initiative and as a supportive member of a wider team, have an inquiring mind and a willingness to learn. You should be able to quickly understand management systems and relationships and work with confidence when exploring options and supporting solutions.

In addition to managing an exciting project there is a £4,000 training budget. You will also have the opportunity to register for an MSc/ MPhil at Aston University, the fees being paid by the university.

You will be employed by Aston University but will be based at Birmingham City Council offices, Birmingham City Centre.

Please note the successful applicant will be required to undertake a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure.
