This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch a career in industry with the support of company and academic mentors.

Spectrum - Thea Pharmaceuticals Ltd (STPL) offers high quality ophthalmic products to ophthalmologists, nursing staff, pharmacists and optometrists; specialising in dry eye, blepharitis (chronic inflammation of the eyelids), ocular nutritionals and prescription products, all dedicated to improving eye health. It promotes these products to health professionals through the sales team dedicated to ophthalmology and optometry, which works within Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) standards of operation.

STPL have partnered with Aston University on this project to provide the opportunity for STPL to set up an internal department of clinical expertise who will ensure the required knowledge is available to the sales team. This means the sales team will be able to effectively communicate the evidence-based advantages of STPL products to both clinicians and patients.

On this KTP project you will be responsible for establishing systems to monitor and critically review scientific/ clinical developments, to inform business decision making and identify new markets, keeping staff at the forefront of developments in optometry and ophthalmology and ensuring products are technically relevant. You will lead the development of educational materials for patients and clinicians as well as providing the sales team with information for new marketing materials.

You should have a minimum 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree in Optometry, Medicine or Health Sciences. Some post- qualification experience would be an advantage, as would research experience. It would also be desirable to have some experience with an optical practice but this is not essential.

You should have good presentation, communication and organisational skills and be able to work as part of a team. Sound IT skills are required as you will need to develop a database. to manage the information you find, evaluate how to increase web traffic & evaluate scavenger software as part of the project. You will also need to be a driving licence holder.

As well as a generous individual training budget you will have the opportunity to gain a Medical Representative Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry Diploma, making you attractive to a wide range of companies. There will also be the opportunity to complete the Aston Certificate for Learning and Teaching as a result of your involvement in training the STPL sales team.

 

You will be employed by Aston University but will be based at STPL in Macclesfield.
