Job Description

PV Solar UK’s main focus is the design supply and installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for domestic properties; however it also undertakes occasional commercial installations and also has a trade sales department. The company was established in 2009 and is fully accredited by both MCS and RECC. Head office is in Cambuslang with offices in Swindon, Exeter and Colchester. The company currently employs between 70 and 80 staff.

Working as part of the design team your main responsibility is the pre-installation design of domestic solar PV installations. Taking information from the technical survey you will use PV*SOL modelling software to design the most efficient system for the property. In addition you are required to carry out loading calculations to ensure systems are installed to MCS standards, and also to provide SAP calculations. You will be required to liaise with customers to discuss their installation and also provide technical support to our installation teams where required.

Other tasks:

  • Using information from technical survey to design the most efficient system using PV*SOL 3D modelling software
  • Prepare technical documents such as yield reports, kit specifications and system estimates
  • Close contact with customers, arranging installations and offering technical support
  • Completing G83/2 and G59/2 application and commissioning forms as and when appropriate
  • Managing a number of installation teams and planning out their schedules
  • Communicating with other departments to ensure smooth running of installation
  • Checking installations comply with MCS standards.

 

Skills/Experience

The ideal candidate for this role will:

• Possess a relevant degree in engineering (Electrical/Mechanical)
• Knowledge/Experience of PV systems
• Understanding of government Feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme
• Knowledge/Experience with DNO (Distribution Network Operator) enquiries regarding G59 and G83 regulation, as well as with planning specifications
• Attention to detail and excellent problem solving skills
• Advanced IT skills and be fully conversant with the Microsoft Office suite
• Require clear communication skills, be able to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
• A flexible and proactive approach
• Reliability and good organisational/project management skills.

Qualifications

Degree in relevant engineering discipline (Electrical/Mechanical/Renewable)
