Product Design Engineer- KTP Associate

Salary: £19500 (plus £4000 individual training budget and higher degree registration)

This is a 2 year Fixed Term Contract 

This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch your career in industry whilst gaining a professional qualification with the support of company and academic mentors.

Rotec Engineering is a successful manufacturing engineering company employing the latest high speed machining technology to manufacture components for industries including aerospace, oil, automotive, medical, defence and packaging.

Rotec has an opportunity to move into the manufacture of higher added value products by producing specialised aviation-related fire-fighting equipment for the MOD and civil use saving lives around the world. The Knowledge Transfer Partnership project with Aston University will develop an advanced design and prototyping capability to enable the company to expand into these new added-value areas including the fire safety market.

You will be responsible for the development of these new products/ ranges whilst developing Rotec’s New Product Introduction process. You will be closely involved in the development of new products, negotiations with a wide range of customers, suppliers and the prioritisation of business and investment decisions. 

You will be passionate about engineering, have achieved a minimum 2:1 in Mechanical or Design Engineering with some industrial experience (including placement year) in a mechanical design environment being an advantage.  Experience of using 3D modelling software such as Solid Works is essential. Experience of analytical tools e.g. Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA) & Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Rapid Prototyping and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) would be an advantage.

You should have knowledge/ experience of manufacturing processes and information management systems. You should be confident, self-motivated and capable of working effectively on your own initiative as well as having the ability to work as a member of a small team and interact at all levels within industry.

You should have a high degree of flexibility, especially in managing tight deadlines, changing priorities and taking initiatives.

On completion of the project Rotec Engineering Ltd will be considering recruiting the associate to lead their R&D function in the company.

The KTP Associate will be employed by Aston University and will work at the company partner in Evesham. The location is easily accessible by public transport.
