ABT Products Ltd batch manufacture cabs, chassis, safety structures and other complex fabrications and components for OEMs such as Lansing Linde, JCB, and Morgan.

ABT Products Ltd has joined forces with Aston University on this KTP project to create a product design process and capability, and to build up its knowledge base in the creation of complex total products. You will be closely involved in the development of new products, negotiations with potential customers and suppliers, and the prioritisation of business and investment decisions. You will develop an understanding of the technical, commercial and applications aspects of all new products, and the cost implications of design decisions.

You should have a minimum 2:1 in Mechanical or Design Engineering with industrial experience (including placement year) in a mechanical design environment, with a proven ability in the creation and use of technical drawings. Operational use of 3D modelling software such as SolidWorks would be an advantage. You should have knowledge/experience of manufacturing processes and information management systems; and an understanding and knowledge of diesel hydraulic applications would be an advantage.

You should be confident, self-motivated and capable of working effectively on your own initiative as well as having the ability to work as a member of a small team and interact at all levels within industry.

You should have a high degree of flexibility, especially in managing tight deadlines, changing priorities and taking initiativesand in introducing change on the shop-floor.

On completion of the project ABT Products Ltd will be considering recruiting the associate to lead their product development function in the company.

The KTP Associate will be employed by Aston University and will work at ABT Products premises in Ross on Wye.
