Job summary
Northburn Industrial Services Ltd have an opportunity for a graduate to undertake a laboratory process review, gap analysis and submission to UKAS for accreditation. During this process, the graduate will also support the laboratory and analytical services to NIS (Coatbridge and Aberdeen) and NIS Sister Companies’ (Rapier and Cumbrian Storage). This is a 12 month placement, with view to permanent hire.

The present lab staff have a full workload and requires an additional resource. The graduate will undertake the review of the laboratory procedures and processes and benchmark United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) against requirements (gap analysis. This will be followed by the implementation of any changes or improvements prior to requesting accreditation from UKAS organisation/s. The graduate would be guided and supported by the NIS Senior Analyst and NIS Project Sponsor.

Role Description
The primary role of the graduate placement (post holder) is to undertake a laboratory process review, gap analysis and submission to UKAS for accreditation during this process will also support the laboratory and analytical services to NIS (Coatbridge and Aberdeen) and NIS Sister Companies’ (Rapier and Cumbrian Storage).
The post holder (placement) will be based at the laboratory facility at the NIS Coatbridge site and receive direction from the Senior Analyst (who reports and is responsible to the NIS Operations Manager)
The placement and post holder will conduct a process review, gap analysis and submission for UKAS accreditation with the support of the business, to enable the development and understanding of the process and procedures the placement will also be trained and support the following

The post holder will conduct laboratory testing and analysis for samples of waste oil and refined waste oil products

The post holder will conduct laboratory testing and analysis for waste water (effluent and cooling tower), VOC emissions and VDU feedstock samples

Waste samples which are laboratory tested will be produced at stages of processing which include incoming (pre-acceptance), internal waste acceptance and outgoing refined oil waste products.

Laboratory testing will be conducted for NIS (Coatbridge and Aberdeen), NIS Sister Companies’ (Cumbrian Storage and Rapier) and NIS customers

The post holder will conduct laboratory testing, collate, record and analyse results and present findings with conclusions to the Senior Analyst for discussion with the Operations Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of the sample store including appropriate sample disposal

The post holder will contribute to the development of new laboratory methods and techniques

The post holder will maintain the laboratory facility, equipment and materials and adopt laboratory best practice
