OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:

Working within a multi-disciplined software development team, the AI Developer will be a strong developer. They will be competent with estimating, planning, analysis, design, and delivery of Ab Initio software.

The incumbent will be responsible for defining and / or ensuring adherence to the quality and architectural standards for software development at MSM.

The Ab Initio Developer will also be responsible for identifying and documenting architecturally significant aspects of the system, producing designs, making decisions to manage / reduce risk and for communicating and explaining those decisions to stakeholders.

MAIN ACTIVITIES/TASKS:

  • Ensures code is delivered to the required quality
  • Incremental Design and Architecture – works to design decisions just-in-time, is pragmatic on delivering just for the story, whilst meeting architectural constraints/standards.
  • Design – delivers the simplest design at the last appropriate time
  • Define and create technical solutions in the project's technology and architecture
  • Communicate the design in a way that other team members understand
  • Walkthrough – will work with BAs and other stakeholders to demo features/stories
  • Spiking Solutions – delivers proof of concepts as appropriate
  • Estimate size of required development activity
  • Performance Optimization – improves performance of the product to meet constraints
  • Reporting –defines and produces automated quality metrics and trends.
  • Version Control – works to and upholds the team practices of source control
  • Documentation – Produces the required supporting documentation
  • Release Planning – assists in planning releases
  • Refactoring – to improve code quality where required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Essential Demonstrable experience with Ab Initio in a similar role
  • Be experienced in requirements management
  • Have good communication skills and be able to work closely with stakeholders
  • Comfortable coaching and mentoring less experienced team members

  • Awareness of Ab Initio continuous flows and web services
  • Have a strong awareness of technical architecture and design considerations.
  • Have effective presentation and communication skills
  • Be adaptable to change, especially being able to adapt to new events and recover from wrong decisions
  • Be objective in accepting work and communicating deadlines
  • Be proficiently technical to understand the technical risks and architectural issues in order to support the prioritization of design/architecture evolution

  • Be focused on the delivery of customer value in the form of executing software that meets (or exceeds) the customers needs
