job Summary

Tomintoul & Glenlivet Development Trust (TGDT) is a Community led regeneration project based in the North East of Scotland. The Trust is recruiting a graduate for a 12 month marketing and communications role to support the regeneration strategy. The role will involve developing and implementing a detailed marketing and sales strategy and supporting in the creation, promotion and management of a range of new events for the area.

TGDT was established to address the economic decline which had been experienced locally, the trust are working on a wide variety of projects from establishing a community broadband service to operating the Hostel in Tomintoul. The role offers a wide variety of experience and new challenges as each project has a very different set of marketing and communication requirements. Some are primarily targeted at the local residents, encouraging them to engage with a new project and others are targeted at the tourism markets, both domestic and international markets.

TGDT aims to benefit both the local community and those visiting the area. This project will allow the area to increase awareness about the vast array of experiences available locally, from wildlife and walking to adventure sports. The role will have a direct focus on the shoulder months and winter season, demonstrating that the area can be a year round destination, increasing the footfall of visitors to the area and in turn the number of overnight stays and visitor spend.

The successful graduate will be responsible for the following tasks:
• Develop / refine marketing plan and sales strategy.
• Develop a social media strategy, building on current platforms already harnessed.
• Formulate an ongoing communications plan to maintain membership and stakeholder interest.
• Identify potential partners for new community and tourism initiatives or events locally.
• Create and distribute promotional material for key projects.
• Increase engagement within the local community through promoting projects and demonstrating benefits across the community through case studies, etc.
• Devise sales campaigns to boost our own and partner businesses particularly in the shoulder seasons
• Write and distribute press releases to announce TGDT successes and promote local initiatives.
• Create handover document/staff manual for all of the above.

The role will be based at the Glenlivet Estate Office, Tomintoul and will involve some travel.

This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the European Regional Development Fund, Cairngorms National Park Authority and the Crown Estate.

• IT skills, including Microsoft Office
• Driving Licence

• Knowledge of tourism industry and local area
• Experience of working within a community focussed organisation
• Experience in event organisation


As part of this TalentScotland Graduate Placement Programme, the candidate will benefit from support from a team within Highlands and Islands Enterprise and also access a four day residential course training focussed on employability and business skills.
