Role Description

Shetland Amenity Trust based in Lerwick, is recruiting for a recent graduate for a Marketing and Communication role. The 12 month project will involve establishing new working practices and procedures to aid all staff in future promotion and information provision relating to visitor attractions, projects and activities. The role will also involve:

  • Developing and implementing a new searchable photo library;
  • Content generation and management of website and social media;
  • Assist in developing and implementing marketing plans;
  • Develop style guidelines for all marketing activities;
  • Researching of information used for marketing materials;

As part of the TalentScotland Graduate Placement Programme in the Highlands and Islands, the candidate will benefit from support from a team within Highlands and Islands Enterprise and also access training focussed on employability and business skills, including a five day residential course.
This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Good ICT skills.
  • Excellent organisation skills.
  • An understanding of how to effectively communicate with local and national media.
  • A strategic understanding of marketing to a wide audience.
  • Use of Social Media websites.
  • Copywriting for media, websites or other public information sources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Self confidence and assertiveness.
  • An ability to work well with a small team within a larger organisation.
  • Creative and enthusiastic.
  • Attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Digital photography skills.
  • A good understanding of database use.
  • Knowledge and experience of website content management systems.
  • A good ability to use design software, specifically In-Design 5
  • A good knowledge of Shetland geography.
  • A keen interest in Shetland’s heritage and culture.

Shetland Amenity Trust was created in 1983 and since then has delivered an impressive portfolio of high quality heritage and culture projects in partnership with a range of local, national and international agencies.

The core objectives of The Trust are to preserve and enhance everything that is distinctive about Shetland’s cultural and natural heritage, and promote access to it whether physical or intellectual.

The Trust operates a number of on-going projects and visitor attractions throughout Shetland including: Shetland Museum and Archives, Old Scatness Broch & Iron Age Village, Viking Unst, The Sumburgh Head Project. Areas of work include architectural heritage, environmental improvement, archaeology, Place Names, horticulture, natural heritage and destination management.
