Job summary

Marine Biopolymers Ltd is looking for an enthusiastic science/engineering graduate to help us run a new pilot plant for extraction of Alginate from Scottish seaweeds.  This is an 8 month project with a strong possibility of converting to a permanent role for the right graduate.

Job Description

Marine Biopolymers (MBL) is a young business targeting a leading position in marine biopolymers. We will be a full scope company, manufacturing and marketing the speciality chemicals we will extract from Scottish seaweeds. Our  current development focus is a new process for Alginate manufacture. Alginate is the largest, and most widely used brown seaweed component , with many different applications.

As a springboard to full scale manufacture using our alginate process, we are currently constructing a pilot plant in a new unit , which we will operate, both to produce in-specification samples for customers, and to gather results for a full scale plant.

We are looking for a Technical Developer  - the title should not be taken too literally - who can help us run our pilot plant, and can contribute meaningfully to its operational success. As a small company, we expect all of our people to muck in and tackle as many tasks as are necessary and relevant to any position.

Skills / Experience

Apart from general technical competence, we are looking for a person who is bright, enthusiastic, willing to be a key part of our team and who is not afraid to input his or her ideas. We have an open culture in our company.

Qualifications

Any degree in science or engineering is essential.  Ideal degrees will be Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. Ability to utilise relevant equipment and carry out analytical and assay procedures is essential.

Benefits

Benefits for the applicant in terms of outcome will be a lot of experience in a broad range of tasks that can be put to good use in further career development.

Other benefits will be discussed.

All applications will be processed through the Talent Scotland Graduate Placement programme. Please direct all initial questions or enquiries to the Talent Scotland team.
