This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch your career in industry whilst gaining a professional qualification with the support of company and academic mentors.

Tata Motors Ltd European Technical Centre PLC (TMETC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Ltd (TML), engaged in design engineering and development of automobiles, working synergistically with TML. TMETC provides expertise across all functional groups: powertrain and driveline, electrical & electronics, chassis, body and trim, craftsmanship, integration, legislation, styling, manufacturing and programme management.  TMETC operates as an engineering consultancy providing engineering services to TML as well as to third parties. In addition to its engineering services TMETC is responsible for the development and manufacture of the Tata Indica Vista electric vehicle.

As part of an ongoing commitment to improving fuel consumption and reducing carbon emissions for its range of passenger and commercial vehicles, the company, in partnership with Aston University, is embarking on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project to enhance TMETC’s capability to model drivetrain systems and the associated control systems.

The project will challenge the Mechanical/Controls Engineer to develop complex plant models of drivetrain components and systems and to develop the algorithms for the supervisory controller.  Specifically the KTP associate will gain highly transferable skills / competency in MATLAB/ Simulink/ Stateflow and its application to control system design and development.

On completion of the project TMETC has expressed an interest in retaining the successful associate in order to continue to improve their capability in this field and be able to offer it as a consultancy product.  The skills which will be gained by the associate are highly sought after in high technology engineering fields including automotive and aerospace and should make the associate readily employable.
