EXPIRY NOTICE: This job has now expired and will not be accepting any more applications.

This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch a career in industry whilst gaining a professional qualification with the support of company and academic mentors.

The National Skills Academy for Power (The Skills Academy) sits at the heart of the power sector. It is a collaboration of major employers and training providers to ensure that the sector’s fast-evolving training needs continue to be met. It aims to do so by developing a knowledge base and structure to deliver the capacity, capability, quality and consistency of training to serve the needs of the sector.

It was launched in 2010 by Energy and Utility Skills Limited (EUS).  The Skills Academy is currently funded by the Skills Funding Agency and increasingly from membership subscriptions so that, by 2013, it will generate its own revenue streams entirely from membership subscriptions and by increased training provision.

The power industry is facing an unprecedented loss of experience and skills in the next few years when a significant proportion of the workforce retires.  Hence, the key challenge for the project will be to build an operational knowledge management structure in collaboration with a range of independent stakeholders to collect, collate and make available across the sector the anecdotal knowledge and tacit skills of long-serving individuals before they leave the industry.

The candidate will require a good first degree (1st class or 2(i) bachelor) in a relevant area, which would either be Electrical Engineering or Management Studies based.  Experience of knowledge or information management; the power sector (generation, transmission or distribution) and change projects would be advantageous.  The Associate will need to be a confident self-starter, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

The skills which will be gained by the associate are highly sought after within the Power Engineering sector and are readily transferable into a wide range of engineering / technology fields and should make the associate readily employable.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to register for an MSc/MPhil.

The KTP Associate will be employed by Aston University and will work at the company partner in Solihull.

Location: West Midlands
