Hatstand require a junior Java developer to work at one of our leading clients (Major European Investment Bank) within the Market Links team.

This role would likely form part of the Hatstand Graduate Trainee scheme and be a two year assignment with guaranteed pay rise and bonus payment.

This role is for a person who is a team player, capable of developing business-critical software in an environment that requires flexibility and high productivity. The developer responsibilities include;

    • Develop the Java infrastructure. The majority of the development work is project based, implementing either new capabilities or new interfaces.
    • Contribute to projects being on schedule and meeting internal client needs and be involved in the various stages of the project life cycle.
    • Developing own skill sets to match the changing technological environment within the bank
    • Plan and manage technical aspects of delivery and liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful production deployment  

 

Essential skills and Experience include:

    • 1 year Core Java (J2SE including multithreading) experience with hands-on, professional Java 5 experience with a strong desire to produce high quality systems
    • Some experience of Java profiling and performance tuning in a demanding environment
    • Some C++ experience would be valuable
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Good Technical or Numerical Degree (2:1 or above)

Desirable:                 

    • Any investment banking exposure would be beneficial
    • Experience of building market adaptors with an emphasis on low latency
    • 1 year development within a Financial services organisation.
    • Knowledge of Market Links (ECN’s)
    • Knowledge of middle-tier based architectures.
    • Knowledge of algorithmic trading and quantitative techniques in a low latency, high volume environment
    • Knowledge of distributed systems design and performance tuning.
    • Knowledge of messaging systems (e.g. Rendezvous, IBM MQ, Active).
    • Knowledge of relational databases
    • Experience of the FIX protocol
    • Interest in and experience of working on complex and challenging projects in a high pressure, high calibre environment
    • Understanding of Unix operating systems (particularly Linux)
    • Knowledge of market data, order, message flow and FIX would be advantageous.
