EXPIRY NOTICE: This job has now expired and will not be accepting any more applications.

How many software roles involve you with counter terrorism, or in cracking the activities of an international drugs ring?

And how many will see you working with some of the world’s most powerful technology, in one of the most sophisticated computing environments in Europe?

Working with GCHQ is far from ordinary – but then, ‘ordinary’ isn’t what you’re looking for.

One of the UK’s three intelligence agencies – along with MI5 and MI6 – GCHQ is on the frontline of the fight against international terrorism and crime. We rely heavily on our 1500+ strong technical community to help collect, process and distribute information, to link our intelligence community, and to support all areas of our business. And equally, we rely heavily on technology.

In our work, second best isn’t good enough, so you’ll find yourself working with equipment and platforms that are literally world-class.

And if it isn’t available commercially, we create it ourselves.

Whatever your role, you’ll be contributing to issues of national and international importance, and gaining valuable experience and exposure. At the same time, you’ll be enjoying above average training and development opportunities on both technical and management pathways.

We have a range of opportunities for experienced IT and Software specialists, and at entry and team leader level.

Based in one of our teams, you’ll work on full life-cycle development and/or support of large computer systems, high-speed networks, database management systems; or on the acquisition of major IT systems, advanced computer technologies or new approaches to computer security. Involved across the life-cycle on a range of projects - some large, some small and short-term - you'll have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Java
  • C++
  • J2EE
  • Weblogic
  • Oracle
  • C/UNIX
  • development/business analysis
  • OO analysis and design
  • implementation, integration and test

As well as the above, you must be a British citizen with a good degree and/or postgraduate qualification in Computer Science or an IT-related subject, Electronics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or Communications
.

Alternatively, a good HND/HNC with relevant work experience or significant experience, regardless of technical qualifications (for certain positions).
