Job summary

IC Mobile Lab have an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to play a vital part in product development and in helping us achieve a timely delivery schedule to get the product onto the market. Primarily designing and implementing software modules for the Android mobile application using Java and Eclipse, the candidate will also have the opportunity to gain wider experience of the PrintAR platform. This is a 6 month placement with high potential for a permanent role thereafter, based in Glasgow.

PrintAR will provide marketers, digital agencies and individuals with the ability to overlay digital content on printed media via Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) to get their message across in an innovative and engaging way. PrintAR will establish itself as the technology provider to the digital/marketing agencies and the technology provider for the Print industry by allowing print companies to integrate their online product creation with the PrintAR platform.

The digital content (3D models, Image overlays, videos) can be stored on a platform that is run and managed by PrintAR and will be downloaded by consumers of the experience using the PrintAR mobile application for Android and iOS. The interaction with the digital overlay is controlled by options that can be set on the website giving them the ability to select template experiences and personalise the interaction for their customers.

The project will deliver the first iteration of the PrintAR platform taking our first offering to the market in H1 2013 including the Website, Mobile applications and the PrintAR Platform web services.

Role Description

The Software Engineer role will play a vital part of the product development and in helping us achieve a timely delivery schedule to get the product onto the market.

The graduate will be responsible primarily for designing and implementing software modules for the Android mobile application using Java and Eclipse. If capable, they will have the opportunity to work on the iOS application using Objective-C and XCode.

This will include writing documentation and tests for the components generated by the graduate.

Additionally the candidate will have the opportunity to gain wider experience of the PrintAR platform on the web development side as the mobile applications must exchange information with the PrintAR web platform.

Planned Outputs & Outcomes:

•        The development of the pre-alpha version of the Android Mobile App within 1.5 months

•        The development of the alpha version of the Android Mobile App within 2 months

•        The development of the beta version of the Android Mobile App within 3.5 months

•        The creation of documentation and associated tests for the components of the mobile application being developed in line with release milestones.

Skills / Experience

Essential:

•        Solid computing background, good knowledge of Java

•        Good attention to detail and accuracy

•        Self-motivated - expected to work with minimal supervision

•        Communication / social skills - need to be comfortable networking with people.

Ideal:

•        Direct project experience with mobile app development

•        Ability to develop a detailed plan with various components and timescales based on a described goal

•        Exposure to Eclipse IDE and working with mobile apps

•        Knowledge of working with RESTful web services

•        The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.

Qualifications

•        Bachelors in Computing Science or Equivalent.
