Job summary

Frontline Safety have an excellent opportunity for a Service Engineer to service and calibrate gas detection equipment and provide quotations for repairs, servicing and technical support. Based at our Head Office in Glasgow, this is a 12 month placement with full training provided and high potential of a permanent contract.

Job Description

Project Objectives:

The main purpose of the project is to bolster the current service team and to support succession planning.

Planned Outputs and Outcomes:

The successful candidate will have to complete various manufacturer training courses and examinations. Successful completion, demonstration of appropriate discipline and attitude during the placement would result in permanent position.

Role Description:

Reporting to Sales & Service Director, the Service & Support Engineer is responsible for the service and repair of Gas (Gas Analytical) equipment across the UK territory.

Key Responsibilities:

•        Demonstrate technical knowledge and ability to ensure that all contract services, breakdowns and repairs are dealt with efficiently and effectively, both in-house and on site;

•        Ensure continued professional development by liaising with Management Team regarding departmental needs and training requirements;

•        Complete job sheets electronically and accurately within the required timescales;

•        Ensure that individual service kits contains the correct and sufficient stock at all times;

•        Address customer queries regarding equipment/faults/ breakdowns and organize site visits;

•        Forge quality customer relationships by liaising professionally with customers when on site, ensure customers are aware at all times of ETA on site, any potential delays and issues, etc.;

•        Seek out new business opportunities – e.g. service and repair work from new and existing customers;

•        Demonstrate effective time management by organizing consumables/equipment required for site visits in advance and travel to site from home where possible to ensure early arrival on site. Extensive traveling and nights away from home are an integral part for the job during busy periods.

Skills / Experience


•        Knowledge and/or experience of designing and developing new control systems and/or maintaining and modifying existing systems;

•        Strong team working skills to work collaboratively with design engineers, operation engineers, purchasers and other internal staff;

•        Good commuinication skills for liaising with clients, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities (e.g. the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority);

•        Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for both current issues and developing new business proposals;

•        An ability to work quickly and accurately with excellent attention to detail to agreed deadlines;

•        Good computer skills (especially with databases and technical software);

•        Excellent attitude towards accepting responsibility and a level of accountability commensurate with the seniority of the position.


•        Experience and/or knowledge of project management (within cost and time constrained environments);

•        Some knowledge and/or experience in understanding and ensuring compliance with the health and safety regulations and quality standards of the country in which work is undertaken;

•        Some knowledge and/or experience of writing computer software.



Degree in an Engineering discipline


Specialisation and/or knowledge in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.


Training & Experience within a niche instrumentation sector.
