Job summary

Rural Housing Service is recruiting for a graduate for a Project Officer role based on the Isle of Mull.  This 12 month project will develop the activities of the Rural Housing Service in the Hebrides and help increase our reach / support to young people in island communities with the aim of helping young people to remain in Scottish island communities through establishing independent homes.

Job Description

The successful graduate will expand the work of the Rural Housing Service in island communities and amongst young islanders; increasing awareness of our services and how we can help individuals and communities.

The role will also involve:

·         providing housing information and advice to young islanders – handling enquiries by  phone and email, establishing and maintaining presence on social media to highlight housing options,  holding face to face meetings at island housing meetings and surgeries – initially with RHS Chief Executive (Training and support will be provided to the graduate)

·         establish islands housing network on Facebook – liaise with Scottish Islands Network and other pertinent groups to ensure thorough dissemination of housing information/advice material

·         marketing/project management of architectural competition to develop affordable island starter home – promoting participation in the competition to architects/developers through media/social media; handling enquiries; distributing project brief; administering entries; organising judging meetings; arranging press/media event to announce winner

·         build links with island community groups/ trusts to find locations for development of island starter homes – help communities to develop proposals for new island housing – including finding land and funding for new housing

This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.

Skills / Experience

Essential:

•   Project management skills

•   Good verbal and written communications skills

•   Ability to think creatively and solve problems

•   Current UK Driving Licence

•   Computer literate

•   Flexible approach to working hours as evening and weekend working will occasionally be required

•   Experience of working on own initiative

•   Self starter

Desirable:

•   Knowledge of architecture and/or building sector

•   Understanding of rural issues + rural housing

•   Negotiation, facilitation and mediation skills

•   Marketing

•   Event Organisation

•   Experience of working with groups

Qualifications

Degree in relevant discipline.
