Callanish Visitor Centre is planning an expansion of the café and retail area as well as the Visitor Centre itself in order to increase sales and improve financial viability.

The graduate will be leading on this expansion project which comprises several phases: sourcing funding for a feasibility study, identifying/sourcing funding for the expansion project, planning the development of the expansion project. In order to support the project with additional funding a ‘Friends of Calanais’ scheme will be created and an online shop implemented.

The role will involve:

Month 1
• Identify funding for feasibility study on Centre expansion design
• Learn how the Company works

Month 2 – 3
• Apply for funding for feasibility study on design of proposed expansion
• Set up ‘Friends of Calanais’ to involve people and generate funding
• Set up online shop with links to social media etc
• Identify possible funding sources for Visitor Centre expansion
• Report to board on progress

Month 4 – 12
• Further develop/expand ‘Friends of Calanais’ scheme
• Develop plans for expansion project
• Organize community open day and update them on project
• Apply for main project funding
• Project implementation (if funding is secured in time)

This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.

• Project manager skills
• Good writing skills for minute taking
• Good numerical skills
• Hard working and can work on own initiative.
• Good communicator and is receptive to other points of view.
• Good team player

Desirable:
• Experience/skills in research
