EXPIRY NOTICE: This job has now expired and will not be accepting any more applications.

For over 40 years, Butters has supplied indoor and outdoor plants to major high street supermarkets and DIY outlets. Starting out as a family business with an eagerness for providing quality and value, Butters is now the UK’s leading distributor of horticultural products. With sales of over £50m a year, we supply products for in-store sale as well as home delivery to household names including Marks & Spencer, J Sainsbury, Wilko, Tesco, Waitrose, Interflora and B&Q.

One of our strongest assets in the business is our people. Our staff have a genuine passion for all things green and we pride ourselves on having a diverse, dedicated team that contributes to making the Butters Group a great place to work. We are now looking for a hands-on Graduate Production Planner to join our team.

Main Purpose of the Role

As a Graduate Production Planner, your primary responsibility will be to assist with the day-to-day planning of processing orders for customers ranging from local florists to major retailers.

Continually looking for ways to improve our service, you will work with the Production Team to improve lead times and efficiencies in our processes, whilst continuing to produce high quality output. You will take on responsibility from day one, ensuring orders are completed on time and to the required specification.

On a typical day, you will be involved in:

  • Processing orders to meet contractual lead times
  • Daily planning of orders
  • Liaising with the buying and selling teams
  • Reviewing lines to target and demand
  • Making decisions around resource required throughout the seasons (e.g. planning resource for the Christmas period)
  • Reviewing processes to improve efficiency
  • Working with the relevant stakeholders to implement changes where appropriate

We have a great culture of support and development here at Butters, and a strong history of graduate success. You will take on the role of Graduate Production Planner for around 18-24 months and there will be opportunities to progress within the business thereafter. Areas which previous graduates have progressed into include: senior operations, supply chain, buying, material planning and dispatch production.

The Individual

We are looking for a personable, self-starter to join our team – someone who is enthusiastic, resilient, willing to get stuck in and able to influence. Other key attributes we are looking for include:

  • Determination
  • Being adaptable – can accommodate changing plans where necessary
  • A good sense of humour
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to build good relationships with people
  • Self-aware and able to see things from different perspectives
  • Process oriented – methodical and logical (but not inflexible)
  • Highly numerate

Academically, we are looking for a 2:2 degree or higher and CCC or equivalent at A-Level.

Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate good attention to detail and strong analytical skills. We need people who are calm under pressure and good at multi-tasking. We welcome new ideas at Butters Group and therefore someone with the confidence to suggest and implement new innovations would fit in well.

Salary & Benefits

We know how hard our employees work and what a substantial contribution they make to businesses and because of this, we offer the people who join us a very attractive package.

  • A starting salary of £23,000
  • 26 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays)
  • Everyday healthcare benefits (reduced fee dental checks, eye testing etc.)
  • Pension
  • Relocation support

Training Opportunities & Progression

A 6-8 week training plan will be in place when you join to ensure you start getting to grips with the business from day one. This role provides a fantastic platform for you to learn the foundations of how a business like ours works and the importance of good financial decision making and taking responsibility.

After building your knowledge, skills and relationships over 18-24 months, you will have the chance to progress into other areas of the business, from supply chain to dispatch and more.

If you think you have the drive and resilience to succeed in this dynamic graduate role, please apply now for immediate consideration.
