Job Description    

Shin-Etsu Handotai Europe Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shin-Etsu Handotai Co Ltd Japan are based in Livingston, West Lothian. We manufacture high-grade silicon polished wafers of 150mm and 200mm epitaxial wafers. These wafers are used by customers in the semiconductor industry to produce a variety of devices.

We now have an excellent opportunity for a Graduate Process Engineer to join our dynamic team on a 12 month placement. The successful candidate will become part of our fast paced and high tech environment to help us in our aims of achieving our quality, cost and delivery objectives. The role focuses on productivity improvement, cost reduction and process risk elimination, with the overall objective of productivity and quality improvement. The role will involve interactions at all levels of the company, including production operators, engineers and various levels of management.

Process / System improvement:

  • Collect, analyse & interpret performance data from the process, setting clear improvement and or development plans.
  • Interrogate the process via experimental design to confirm direction of improvement and or development.
  • Co-ordinate process change in line with plant quality system. ( i.e. “Process Change Control” )
  • Maintain up to date technical knowledge of the industries direction.

New process / system design & implementation:

  • Identify, propose & implement process, system and or equipment design to improve the operation with respect to Quality, Cost, Productivity, Safety.
  • Market research / design future products in liaison with manufacturer.

Education & Training:

  • Identification of training requirements & areas for self-development maintaining CPD records.
  • Deliver training to relevant personnel on any new or revised manufacturing system or process.
  • Investigate customer requests.

Reporting:

  • Preparation of written technical reports in line with company departmental / quality system requirements.
  • Make technical presentations to appropriate groups.

 

Skills/Experience

Essential

  • IT – Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Analytical – Analysis of variance, Correlation and regression, Statistical Process Control, data stratification and Design of Experiments.
  • Communication – Written, Verbal, numerical reasoning, Technical drawings (Electrical, mechanical, P&ID), Technical Report Writing
  • Project Management – Priority Management
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Environmental & Health & Safety– Risk Assessment awareness of Permit to Work, Job Safety Analysis, and use of Display Screen Equipment.

Desirable

  • IT - Minitab
  • Analytical - Use of Oracle Browser and Six Sigma awareness
  • 8D Problem Solving
  • Project Management - Failure Mode Effect Analysis (Design and Process FMEA)
  • Environmental & Health & Safety - Manual Handling, COSHH and PUWER

 

Qualifications

Graduate from undergraduate degree or above. All disciplines accepted.
