Summer Isles Foods, a smokehouse based in Alness, Ross-shire, are recruiting for a graduate for a 12 month marketing role.  The successful graduate will work with the company’s senior management to extend and expand the direct marketing effort in order to increase the turnover and profitability and to improve the brand awareness nationally.

Summer Isles Foods, a smokehouse based in Alness, Ross-shire, are recruiting for a graduate for a 12 month marketing role.  The successful graduate will work with the company’s senior management to extend and expand the direct marketing effort in order to increase the turnover and profitability and to improve the brand awareness nationally.

The role will involve:

•        Appraising the UK (and overseas) markets for opportunities for growing the direct supply of quality Scottish food products to private customers, and proposing what the potential volume might be,

•        Assessing the suitability of the current product range, prices, ordering, and customer support  services then proposing improvements as necessary;

•        Reviewing the cost effectiveness of the current packaging and delivery systems and proposing improvements,

•        Identifying and proposing the most cost-effective methods of recruiting new private customers, retaining established customers and maintaining an effective active customer database;

•        Proposing then managing improvements to, or replacement of, the current website including writing suitable persuasive copy, incorporating photographs and search engine optimisation;

•        Proposing and managing improvements to the current promotional mix – catalogue, newsletters etc. including the use of social media including the writing and editing of text and video then daily updating of such as Facebook, Twitter, You Tube etc;

•        Proposing and implementing costed sales promotions /special offers etc, in particular to develop sales outside the peak Christmas period;

•        Proposing a costed marketing plan setting out targets and timescales for growing the customer base, improving the promotional effort and increasing sales and margins;

•        Evaluating promotional results then identifying and exploiting opportunities for improved sales performance.

•        Production of marketing manual to capture processes for the above. If appropriate, handover to new staff member.

Depending on the success of the graduate in achieving these project objectives, they may be offered full time employment.

This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.

Skills / Experience

Essential:

•        A degree in Marketing or equivalent relevant discipline;

•        An ability  to write enthusiastic and persuasive promotional copy for quality food products in good English;

•        Ability to cost and evaluate the effectiveness of promotional activity;

•        Good competence and ability with current IT systems and methods;

•        Bright, intelligent and adaptive;

•        Honest, truthful and trustworthy;

•        Able to work independently;

•        Willing to re-locate if not living in the area;

•        Good organisational skills.

Desirable:

•        Strong general knowledge of the internet and experience using Social media such as Facebook and Twitter;

•        Good competence with photography and using image editing applications such as Photoshop;

•        Some experience of direct marketing;

•        Good interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

•        Degree in Marketing or other relevant discipline.
