EXPIRY NOTICE: This job has now expired and will not be accepting any more applications.

Lead developer/DevOps Engineer wanted as first technical hire at Appointedd, an award winning early stage startup. A complete business management system for salons and spas, this SaaS product is set to disrupt an industry. This placement is initially 12 months but should convert to a full-time position.

Want to be the lead tech in an exciting new startup?

Appointedd is a cutting edge online business management tool for salons and spas and we are looking for our first technical hire!

Don’t let the ’pink’ nature of this market sway you, our software is at the forefront of its game and requires talented engineers to drive us forward in our goal to disrupt and enhance the salon and spa industry nationally then globally!

With business management software and an online portal for consumers to browse and book the salons who use our system, we’ve been described as JustEat meets Smarta.

Appointedd’s technology stack is a typical web app setup. The server code is built in PHP, using the Kohana 3 framework. We like MVC and it’d be great if you did too. HTML5 and jQuery on the client side, which is all powered by a MongoDb.

Everything is currently cloud hosted – you’ll be working with us to make sure the product is stable, but server maintenance is kept to a minimum, allowing you to get on creating a great product to delight our customers.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in these technologies, but not all of them are a necessity. Understanding automated testing and deployment methods will give you a big advantage. Ultimately, we are looking for someone who is dedicated to honing a great product, is quick to pick up new technologies, and can actually ship their work!

The position is based in Scotland’s startup incubator Entrepreneurial Spark, meaning you’ll be in a creative office full of passionate startups. You may be the sole in-house techie at Appointedd, but you’ll be in a collaborative environment with lots of likeminded people (don’t worry, if your headphones are in we won’t interrupt unless it’s an emergency!).

Your day will be a mix of development and ops time, prioritising change requests as they come in, working on the next feature, and making sure the service is running smoothly. At times the role will be customer facing as you help them through an issue that can’t be replicated back in the office. Or perhaps you’ll write a tech blog for us. You might work with external experts such as a UI designer or SEO specialist. We are happy for you to get involved with any aspects of company life you are interested in and, being our first technical hire, there’s unlimited scope for career development.

The placement will last for 12 months and we would envisage this turning into a full time position. We are currently based in Entrepreneurial Spark, Scotland's business accelerator, and will be moving to a city centre office in June (Greenside Place, EH1).
