Job summary

GLASSTORM Ltd, a specialist company creating a variety of bespoke works in glass are recruiting for a hot glass experienced graduate to assist in the making of glassworks.  The successful graduate will be based in Tain, Ross-shire and will work in both the hot and cold workshop areas and in particular help with maintaining a level of production while studio changes are taking place.  This is a 12 month position with the potential for continued employment depending on performance.

Job Description

This is an exciting period in GLASSTORMs development as they look to expand their workshop with direct impact on being able to increase manufacturing capabilities and to develop and establish new sales markets.

The graduate in addition to the manufacture of works will play an important part in the studio restructure and assist the studio project leader in making the workshop more effective in particular to allow greater capacity for production. The graduate will assist in the installation of equipment and preparation of space.

This is an excellent opportunity to have a full overview of the workings of a professional studio and gallery. The successful candidate will experience and gain additional glassmaking skills, knowledge in maintenance and installation of specialised glass making equipment, how to market products and studio order processes right through to dispatch of works.

This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.

Skills / Experience

Essential:

•        Hot glass making skills

•        Previous hot shop experience either through education and/or in working studios

•        Eagerness to expand ones knowledge and take instruction

•        Good sense of humour and ability to remain focused and attentive in busy working environment.

•        Good at working alone or in team environment

Desirable:

•        Cold working glass skills/experience

•        Previous experience in working in commercial studio
