1:1 coaching towards chartered status
Graduate Engineers joining BWB often find what they were looking for. As an opportunity to grow and develop in a fast paced, professional environment, there are few able to match the range of projects and responsibilities we offer.
You will be welcomed into both the team and the industry by being given challenging work from Day 1, with unparalleled levels of support and training available. You will soon be providing design input and drawings on a range of projects, producing workable solutions carried through to construction.
With the support of others, you will start work on smaller projects, with an emphasis on skills development and a steep learning curve. You will quickly start working independently on larger and more challenging projects and after a year you will start co-ordinating small-scale projects on your own.
In your second year you will become more involved in client liaison as you begin to manage larger projects. Your third year introduces people management and your training and development begins to move from skills-based to strategic. Our 1:1 coaching provision will, by this point, have prepared you to become a chartered member of your chosen institution.
BWB recognises that, with such expectations and challenges, individuals selected must be of the highest calibre. Whilst academic qualifications are important, skills and attributes such as problem-solving, communication, personal organisation and team-working skills – together with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines – will help candidates stand out.
An exposure to the construction industry, either through work experience or as part of your degree course, would be an advantage. You are expected to be computer literate and able to use AutoCAD. Experience in highways, drainage or structural design work and/or a familiarity with the use of industry-standard software packages would also be beneficial.
You should have a good degree in a relevant subject. Your enthusiasm, ambition and willingness to learn is a given.
