Graduate Drainage Engineer

Main Purpose of the job
To assist in the operation of the Council's Drainage and Flood Policy, and provide drainage support or advice to the public & other services or organisations, all aimed at reducing flooding and pollution problems.
A great opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic self motivated person to join our team. You will be working on large flood risk projects where your day will be split between office and on site activities.
The ideal person will be methodical, numerical and have strategic direction.
The Council already has a progressive Drainage and Flood Defence Policy and has been at the forefront of developing and increasing the use of Sustainable Drainage. The team is looking forward to new challenges following the Pitt Review into flooding, the future Water and Floods bill and expects to take on a new leading role in managing surface water. In addition the team is involved in the Environment Agency’s £45M tidal flood defence strategy and the Council’s Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
Working within a small team dedicated to reducing flooding, you will deal with:
- Feasibility studies, design and site supervision of flood relief schemes, Response to flooding incidents.
- Checking planning applications & providing comments in order to achieve high standards of Sustainable Drainage
- Inspection of ordinary watercourses
- Updating GIS based drainage and flood records
- Flood risk Assessments
