The Highways Agency is responsible for operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England. It’s our job to tackle congestion, enhance safety, inform travellers, increase reliability and improve journey times. This is a task that involves enormous technical challenges, huge projects, large numbers and big ideas. So it calls for leaders who will measure up to that task. Our Graduate Development Programme has three distinct schemes designed to develop and deliver those leaders into the core areas of our business.
The Accountancy Scheme is based in our Finance Directorate and provides a three-year professional platform on the way to becoming a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW).
The Highways Agency is accountable for over £80 billion of assets and more than £6 billion of capital and current expenditure each year. Over the three year programme you’ll gain the technical and professional skills to play a leading role in financial and strategic decision-making. The scope of our work will provide you with an enormous breadth of hands on experience, ranging from resource planning, management accounting and compliance to corporate governance, risk management, professional advice and systems delivery. Throughout your project-based, rotational experience, you’ll have professional ICAEW mentor support to ensure you’re on track to qualify as a Chartered Accountant at the end of the training contract.
With the letters ACA after your name, you’ll have one of the best and most highly regarded professional business qualifications. With the HA, you’ll have one of the most rewarding, challenging and stimulating careers ahead of you.
