Job summary

7stanes are looking for a Graduate Development Executive to raise the profile of the 7stanes mountain bike trails through various marketing/PR initiatives and communication channels and identify and secure new sources of funding. The role is broad and will encompass a range of business functions to support the development of the business. This is a 12 month placement based in Dumfries.

Job Description

The 7stanes is a term used to describe a series of mountain bike centres owned and managed by Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) across Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders. The centres have been developed over the past 9 years, funded by FCS with additional public, private and EU Objective 2 financial support.

The Company’s role is primarily to raise the profile of the 7stanes mountain bike trails through various marketing initiatives and communication channels and identify and secure new sources of funding with the aim to become self-sustaining.

A highly motivated, efficient and experienced individual is sought to:

1. Market and Promote the 7stanes Ltd

·         Assist the Development Manager in implementing marketing and public relations activities for the company

·         Develop and implement effective online and offline marketing activity, and monitoring & evaluation systems

·         Support the Company to publicise and promote visitor payback / membership schemes to raise funds

·         Offer innovative solutions for future fundraising activities

·         Liaise with local businesses, stakeholders and supporters  to encourage engagement with the company and the project and assist in the development of effective systems for this liaison

·         Support the Development Manager in seeking feedback from 7stanes customers to enable appropriate and effective action to be taken

·         Attend trade shows and events promoting the 7stanes

·         Undertake day to day updates on web site and activities on social media channels

·         Maintain database of visitors for future marketing/ fundraising activities

·         Manage telephone and e-mail enquiries from visitors, local businesses and partners.

2. Increase sales activity

·         Assist in trade sales and online advertising sales

·         Support the operation of the online shop including processing order, dispatching goods and dealing with enquiries

·         Deal with enquiries and orders from trade customers

·         Liaising with new and existing businesses to organise online advertising within 7stanes web site.

3. Maintain and manage effective online communication

·         Manage email communication and social media

·         Contribute to search engine optimisation

·         Manage Google adword campaigns, budget, general monitoring, reviewing and evaluation of social media channels

·         Update website content.

4. Provide administrative support

·         Provide administrative and project management support to the development manager

·         Assist in the streamlining and effective management of data capturing mechanisms / systems

·         Maintain effective electronic records in relation to company activities including marketing initiatives, website, events and financial records

·         Undertake administrative support duties for the Development Manager and Board including arranging meetings, liaising with Board members, stakeholders, businesses and the public, preparing documents, minute taking, maintain calendar of activities / meetings etc.

Skills / Experience


·         Strong organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines to undertake administrative duties and provide project support

·         Good marketing and/or sales skills

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - proven ability to communicate with enthusiasm and passion

·         Good written skills, e.g. copywriting and editing skills

·         Good numeracy skills in order to assist the maintenance of robust financial records

·         High degree of computer literacy including Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

·         Being able to work with little supervision and take own initiative

·         Some experience and/or knowledge of managing, updating and refreshing website content

·         Some experience and/or strong knowledge of social media marketing and activities.


·         Whilst knowledge of mountain biking is not a pre-requisite, knowledge of tourism sector would be a definite advantage

·         Good customer service skills and telephone manner

·         Experience of day to day management of websites website content management skills

·         Experience in developing & maintaining effective electronic records/ databases

·         Knowledge/some experience with SAGE accounting systems.


Degree Level - all disciplines accepted as long as the candidate can demonstrate skills outlined.
