Graduate Developer / Software - Consultant

A one of kind Graduate Programme. ThoughtWorks is an organization that prides itself on challenging the conventional; in the way we deliver software, run our business and hire our people. Right now we are looking for six exceptional Computer Science/IT graduates that have the passion, creativity and drive required for a career in technology consultancy and want to learn Java and C# alongside some of the most talented technologists in the world.

As a ThoughtWorks’ developer at you will go on to:

  • Create complex, enterprise-transforming business applications across multiple industry domains
  • Work as part of diverse, high energy teams focused on full life-cycle development.
  • Use the latest tools and techniques (currently J2EE, C#, Agile Methodologies, SOA, Web Services, Ruby on Rails)
  • Travel to work at client sites and other ThoughtWorks offices with the opportunity to work on projects in the US, Canada, India, Australia and China.
  • Have a reputation for being amongst the best technologists in the world.

Who are ThoughtWorks?

ThoughtWorks. Probably a name you’re not familiar with. We’ve been around in the US for more than ten years now, and here in the UK for just over three. Today, we’re a multinational with some 700 people throughout the US, Canada, UK, Australia, India and China. Our customers are mostly from the top global 1000 companies and include leading names in financial services, retail and energy. Our business is growing rapidly, largely through word of mouth recommendation, with revenues now approaching $90m. We tackle complex, mission-critical applications like many other software companies. But that’s where the similarity ends. We relish the kind of software challenges other so-called specialists dread. Ridiculously tight deadlines, disparate technologies, ill-defined requirements - all the things that are supposed to keep us awake at night are the reason we leap out of bed in the morning. And no, it’s not that we’re simply a bunch of technical masochists. We just approach things differently.

Graduate Programme

So it makes sense that our graduate scheme is a bit different too. Once hired we’ll fly our six graduate hires to our Bangalore office for the "ThoughtWorks University" where you’ll converge with other graduates from our globall office for 6 weeks intensive training in Agile, consultancy skills and object oriented analysis & design and programming. We’ll work closely with you to prepare you for the delivery role in our organisation that is right for you, get you started on building your global network while also giving you the chance to see some of our distributed projects first hand. After that it’s back to the UK and onto a project working along side experienced ThoughtWorkers to put what you’ve learned into action.

What type of person are you looking for?

We place an emphasis on making sure our graduate intake is as diverse as possible because talent stretches across all walks of life. We recognize that many graduates, especially women, shy away from a career in IT consulting because it is perceived as a male dominated profession and the associated stereotype of IT being full of socially inept nerds. Not so at ThoughtWorks! We are proud to have created a truly unique culture. ThoughtWorkers are as diverse a group as you'll find anywhere in the IT professional services industry.

What are the requirements?

  • 2.1 in Computer Science/IT related degree subject OR a 2.1 in any subject followed by an MSc in Computer Science/ IT related degree.
  • Programming prowess - you must be able to demonstrate good knowledge of Object-Orientated programming concepts through course work and/or have at least one module in Object Orientation (OOA/OOD)
  • No more than 18 months post grad experience in an I.T. related role
  • Willingness to travel; initially to Bangalore for the University and then around the UK for up to nine months at a time.
