One of the UK’s three intelligence agencies – along with MI5 and MI6 – GCHQ is on the frontline of the fight against international terrorism and crime.

It’s essential that the technology we use is always at least one step ahead of the people we're working against. Your role will be to help ensure that this is the case. Working with some of the latest and most exciting technologies available anywhere in the world, you’ll help us make the most of them after researching their value and potential risks.

The work you do, highly creative and leading edge, will help to safeguard the future security of Britain - often playing an immediate and crucial role.

You’ll be working with likeminded people too, some of the leading names in their field, who are just as passionate as you’ll be about your role.

The range of projects on offer is developing all the time. Currently they include:

  • high speed Internet processing
  • network exploration and data mining
  • embracing both software development and hardware design

But this is really just a flavour of what’s involved.

From day one we’ll give you all the support you need to make the most of your skills. You’ll automatically be eligible to join our Professional Technologist Training Scheme, accredited by the IET, BCS and IIE, giving you the chance to achieve Chartered Engineer Status. On top of providing professional, mentoring and training support, we’ll also pay all professional fees associated with attaining these qualifications.

You should have, or expect by the summer, a minimum 2:1 Honours degree in a single or joint subject such as Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or any other numerate/technical subject.

You will also need excellent A’ level grades, including at least two in scientific and numerate subjects. The ability to apply mathematical and/or analytical techniques to problem solving is essential.
