NOTICE: This job has now expired and will not be accepting any more
There are 33,000 of us at Network Rail, working hard to improve every aspect of Britain’s railways. Through projects as diverse as the regeneration of London’s King’s Cross station and providing nationwide access to the 2012 Olympic Games, we’re making a tangible difference to the everyday lives of millions. Right now, we’re looking for talented graduates with the self-confidence, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence to help drive our business and realise their ambitions with our dynamic, forward-looking organisation.
General Management Scheme
It takes a strong commercial focus to run a modern, efficient and customer-focused rail network. Our General Management Scheme will help you build on this while equipping you with all the skills and experience necessary to make a real impact on our business.
It all begins with an intensive six-week induction course to introduce you to your fellow graduates and all aspects of our organisation. After that, you’ll be assigned to your first role within one of our four key business areas:
Operations & Customer Service - this is the function that manages the day-to-day running and continuing development of the network, ensuring that the services we provide run as smoothly as possible.
Maintenance - as well as maintaining the track, signalling and electrification equipment and off-track operational land and property, this team manages on-track plant contracts, telecoms maintenance contracts and a large vehicle fleet.
Corporate Services - this division covers a wide range of specialist teams covering: Finance and Procurement; Government and Corporate Affairs, Planning and Regulation, Human Resources, Information Management, National Delivery Service, Network Development, Legal Services, Corporate Change and the Strategic Analysis Unit.
Major Projects & Investments (MP&I) - MP&I is formed around our key asset groups: track, signalling and telecoms, civil engineering, electrification and plant, estates, project controls and enhancements. Over the next five years, MP&I is set to invest some £10.3 billion in renewal and enhancement projects.
Wherever you join us, you’ll need at least a 2.2 honours degree in any subject but preferably in business or management. In return for your hard work and commitment, you can expect real responsibility from the start – gaining hands-on experience and getting involved in key commercial decisions that make a visible difference to the organisation. Through in-depth, ongoing training, you’ll quickly gain the professional skills needed to become a manager of the future.
