EXPIRY NOTICE: This job has now expired and will not be accepting any more applications.

Oyster are offering fantastic job opportunities abroad in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia, ranging from volunteering in local schools, working with orphaned chimps, or teaching English.  Immerse yourself in the local community and see all your chosen country has to offer!

Take a Gap Year in Kenya

In 2006, Gill (now our representative) approached us to suggest volunteering projects that would genuinely help her home community of Laikipia, a small town in the equatorial region of Kenya, far from the tourist hotspots. We now work with several schools in the Nanyuki area - near Mount Kenya - as well as the Naro Moro Home for disabled children and the Nanyuki Children's Home, which provides a loving home for around 80 kids.

Another very different option is to help out with research projects at a wildlife reserve in the area: you could find yourself working alongside trained zoologists on the welfare of black rhino and orphaned chimps.

All placements offer an optional three-day, two-night safari in one of Kenya's most-loved game reserves, Samburu, and a local induction course.

Take a Gap Year in Tanzania

Volunteer as a care worker at an orphanage, as an English teacher
or work on an Aids awareness program.
The area is small so it's easy to hook up with other volunteers at weekends - and for travelling when your placement is over: most participants take up our safari - seeing lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and cheetah from the luxury of a game lodge - but there are also the coast, the island of Zanzibar, snorkelling and dolphin-spotting.

Take a Gap Year in Zambia - Livingstone

All our projects are based in or near the attractive colonial town of Livingstone - yup, it’s named after the doctor - which is, handily, just a few miles from the Victoria Falls and three excellent game parks. It has a large passing population of Western travellers and good healthcare facilities. On its periphery, however, lie small, struggling communities who badly need help. We’ve spent time building up relationships with various projects that truly benefit the local communities.
